… while this should not cause any issues we have had reports in the past of old email clients that required restarting to accept the new certificate.

One of our customers has damaged the reputation of the server causing e-mail to be delayed.

Update: We have implemented a work around and are routing mail via another server so that it is delivered without delay. We will continue to monitor the situation and plan to switch back to direct routing when the issues have been resolved.

Update: The work around has now been rolled back and mail is now being delivered directly from the server again.

Update: 06:32 - Disk IO & CPU are at 100%. The server is technically up but all sites and services are so slow as to be unresponsive.

It seems users on the Purple server cannot login to collect mail or update their sites. It is suspected that this is caused by an upgrade done at 19:37 last night.

Update 11:31: We can confirm that the PAM (Password Authentication Module) configuration on the server was broken using last night’s upgrade. We have now fixed this issue and apologise for any inconvenience caused. No email will have been lost during this outage.

BlueOnyx 5208R brings a whole new control panel to the server which may take some getting used to but there are handy helpers throughout that should point you in the right direction.

We have identified an issue with users accessing email (POP3, IMAP & SMTP) via SSL.

Users may see SSL warnings to say that the certificate expired today. We can assure you that the certificate has been renewed.

This will only affect users that send or collect email via SSL.

Update: This issue has now been fixed. All email will have remained encrypted at all times.

Unfortunately some routine maintenance to the server purple.dogsbodyhosting.net has caused it to go offline.

We are investigating the issue and will aim to get it back online ASAP.

Update: 21.48 - The root cause was found to be some file corruption in the main operating system. This was very small and limited to one (important) file. This has now been repaired and all services are operating properly again.

Users of our purple.dogsbodyhosting.net server maybe having issues connecting to services.

Our external monitoring is showing connectivity issues from some points of the internet but not others.

We are investigating with our upstream providers but initial indications show this is a routing error elsewhere on the internet that we cannot fix directly ourselves.

We will liaise with the relevant parties and update this post with more information when we have it.

Update: 23:17 - Connectivity has been restored and all services have resumed to normal working service. We will keep monitoring this closely for the next few hours.

Update: 11:58 (26 Feb 2013) - An update from our upstream provider… “Tonight we were mitigating a large inbound DDOS attack which would have caused a small number of our clients on this particular segment of the network to have connectivity issues. This started at about 22:20 25 Feb 2013 and was on going for roughly 45 minutes. Our network engineers worked on resolving the issue quickly and connectivity issues now seem to have been resolved, we are monitoring the situation closely.”
